Strathcona Centennial 2012
- Tell Us Your Story!
Hello fellow Strathconians,
Many of you may have heard that I am writing a book about the people who lived around the Mill Creek Ravine. This includes those who reside also on the west side of 99th Street. I am including historical stories (of people you remember), as well as, stories from people who are still living, either in the neighborhood or those who have left. I have been trying to get as many stories as I can, but this is proving difficult. So, I have decided to put a deadline on receiving the stories so that they can be put in the book – December 18th, 2012.
I am wanting everyone, so do not think that your story is not interesting. I have stories about a neighbour who was in World War 2 along with all of his siblings and they all returned home uninjured. I have stories about cattle running through Mill Creek when a Gainers fire had started. I have stories about kids misbehaving in the ravine (very funny ones). So, I am asking you to put on your thinking cap and come up with one or two stories that reveal a humorous event, a sad situation, running into someone famous, playing down in the ravine, or even a story about your garden. This area has a very different culture than the rest of Edmonton and I want to celebrate that with your stories, your memories. No one is too young to tell a story or, too old. I want them all.
So please if you can write some stories you can send them to my house at 9756 89 ave or phone me at 780-433-2490 or email them to me at jan66olson@gmail.com. Also, if you know of others on your street who may not have access to the community website, or internet you can have them contact me at 780-433-2490.
I ask that when you submit the stories that you put your name and address on the letter and that you give me permission to use the story in the book.
2012 is soon coming to a close, and as this is a centennial year of Edmonton joining Strathcona, I think it is important to let Edmonton know who we are.
You can either phone me at 780-433-2490 or email me at jan66olson@gmail.com
Yours sincerely
Jan Olson
